This is the stage, where the best dance their way into legend. This is Jackson.
The USA International Ballet Competition’s mission is to provide an opportunity for dancers to test themselves against recognized international standards of dance excellence and showcase their technical skill and artistic talent; to provide a forum for communication and intercultural exchange; and to educate, enlighten and develop future artists and audience support for the art of dance.
Every 4 years, the ballet world returns to Mississippi.
USA IBC is a two-week “Olympic-style” competition for top young dancers and a major stepping stone toward a professional career. Competitors from all over the world vie for gold, silver and bronze medals; cash prizes; and company contracts. The audience is filled with company directors interested in hiring dancers, and for this reason, many dancers leave with jobs–possibly the grandest prize of all.
Educational Programs
The USA IBC is committed to developing future artists and educating and enlightening the public about dance. During each quadrennial competition, advanced and intermediate-level dancers ages 12 and up attend our Dance School. Our artist-in-residence program brings in a respected company for a master class, lecture demonstration and company performance. Ballet and dance instructors attend Teacher Training. In the years between competitions, USA IBC Reunion Galas feature past medalists performing on the Jackson stage where so many have seen their dance careers launched. An acclaimed company makes a guest appearance and also instructs Master Classes for serious dance students. Each year, USA IBC, with generous support from its sponsors, facilitates CityDance, a no-cost after-school dance program for Jackson Public School District students between ages 7 and 12.
Economic Development & Tourism
During the 2023 USA IBC more than 44,000 people attended the performances and special events, generating an economic impact of approximately $48 million for Jackson and Mississippi.
Reunion Performances
For one night only, some of the ballet world’s most recognized stars who are former USA IBC medal winners return to the Jackson USA IBC stage.
