2018 INTERNATIONAL JURY
USA IBC Jury is governed by highest international ballet standards and fairness
The USA IBC continues to earn respect for its stringent yet impartial adjudication. Since its debut in 1979 as the first international ballet competition in the western hemisphere, Jackson has signified excellence. The USA IBC was the first to implement the one judge per nation rule that has been replicated by other competitions.
Jurors are artistic leaders who have enjoyed successful careers as dancers, directors, instructors and choreographers, earning the respect of the industry in each position.
As 2018 Jury Chair, John Meehan is one of only a few individuals who have served in that capacity. Robert Joffrey chaired the first panel in 1979 as well as those for the 1982 and 1986 competitions. Following Joffrey’s death in 1988, Bruce Marks chaired juries for six competitions (1990-2010). Edward Villella served as chairman of the 2014 panel.
The list of those who have represented their nations on the USA IBC Jury includes the lauded and the legendary…Ananiashvili, Golovkina, Grant, Kirova, Nagy, Van Dantzig, Yanowsky, Usui, Ratmansky, Kim…and scores of others.
